Having a job means more then just a paycheck. It gives a sense of accomplishment, a sense of community and a reason to wake up in the morning. Employment for many youth offers a source of pride and quickly becomes part of their identity. Employment acts as an opportunity to become more than who they are and realistically start to dream about who they can become.

At Pathways the Base4Sucess program is designed to provide a bridge between where someone is currently and where they hope to be. Unemployment can be overwhelming for anyone, it is a difficult process and can often times be discouraging. The Base 4 Success program is a 12 week long hybrid learning experience that combines in class training with on the job vocational experience.

Our program is in the business of overcoming any barriers that could potentially work against a youth harming their motivation or ability to be successful. Whether we are offering additional qualification training by way of WHMIS or Smart Serve or just providing a youth with a new shirt or a bus ticket these little differences have the potential to make a lasting impact towards sustainable employment. Our program stands apart from other programs because we offer a multi-faceted holistic approach to training. Our in class Training Facilitator offers a unique prospective and valuable learning opportunity within a classroom environment. In the classroom we come along side the youth and guide them in training aspects such as budgeting, time management, interpersonal communication etc. While at placement our Case Manager consistently goes above and beyond to connect with the youth where they are and navigate the complicated transitional period of starting and maintaining new employment.

This program is available to support youth within York Region who are between 15-30 years of age, are out of school and not currently receiving any form of Employment Insurance (EI) or have done so within the past 5 years. Prior to intake the staff meet with the youth one-on-one in order to assess their needs and come up with an action plan that will act as our road map to success.
