Did you know that in York Region, it is estimated that up to 300 youth are homeless?  You may not see them, but youth are living on the streets, in parks and abandoned buildings, couch surfing, and getting by in other temporary accommodation.  The longer someone is homeless, the greater the risk of long-term physical or emotional harm and the greater the cost to society.  It’s time we did something about it and we need your help!

The Toque Tuesday Campaign raises awareness and vital funds to support our programs for youth here in York Region. Each winter, trademark Raising the Roof toques are offered for a $10 donation to support long-term solutions to homelessness. The proceeds raised from this campaign are directed back into Pathways’ programs to ensure that we are supporting programs and homeless youth right here in our communities.

The Toque Campaign is a fun opportunity to get involved and make a difference. Participating in the Toque Tuesday Campaign is an easy and rewarding way to show that you care. For each toque that you sell represents the costs of providing (2) meals to a youth, or (4) bus tickets for a youth while searching for a job.  For every 10 toques sold, represents a week’s enrollment in a life skills or apprenticeship program. (35) toques represents a year’s worth of support for a youth at our Home Base Youth Drop-In Centre.  The more toques sold, the more people we can help!

Every year from November through February (Toque Tuesday is on February 5th, 2013) school groups, faith-based organizations, businesses and individuals get involved in Toque Tuesday to raise money for local youth agencies such as Pathways to reduce and prevent homelessness.  Get your friends and family involved today!  It’s easy, and you can make a difference – one youth at a time.

Contact us today for more information on how to get involved in a fun, dynamic campaign and join groups across the country who are making a difference at the local level and helping to put a stop to youth homelessness.

Everyone deserves a place to call home.
