History
Pathways for Children, Youth and Families of York Region Inc. began over 20 years ago as two separate agencies which were developed to address needs in the communities of York Region.
The Markham Neighbourhood Support Centre was developed to respond to the needs of young families with children who sought support and ways to learn about childrearing.
Youth Housing Markham provided safe and supportive housing for youth who could no longer live at home. A volunteer committee worked to create two group homes for 13 homeless youth.
These two agencies, growing together and sharing office space, were brought closer together by Government cutbacks in the 1990’s, and they eventually amalgamated in 1998 to form Pathways for Children, Youth and Families of York Region. This ensured the future of services and programs the community had worked so hard to establish.
Since then, Pathways has been building and expanding programs while responding to the needs of the community, most importantly, the service users.
Here and Now—Meeting the diverse needs of many communities and cultures.
As the communities of York Region continue to change, so does the need for services. Markham has become one of the most diverse communities in Canada. Pathways now delivers services in seven languages, as we reach out to a variety of communities to offer programs and services. We serve over 1,200 families, and over 1,800 youth each year from every corner of the world. Our staff represent many cultures and experiences and they have a reputation for offering quality and innovative programming to the people we serve.
Mission Pathways is a community based organization empowering children, youth and families through prevention, education and advocacy to enhance their overall well being.
Vision Giving children, youth and families opportunities to be their best.
Guiding Principles Collaborative. Client-focused. Professional. Compassionate. Evolving. Ethical.
